Need a Baby Stroller? Here’s How To Buy One
written by stroller expert Karyn Allen
A stroller that is right for you
When you become a parent, you automatically think of the things that your baby/ babies need, such as cribs, and strollers. As parents, you need a stroller until your child learns to walk. However, there are different kinds of strollers that are available whether online or in your local shops. It can be hard to tell which stroller is the right one for you and your baby.
When buying strollers, the usual questions that pop into a mother or a parent(s)’ mind are:
- Do we want something cheap and light?
- Do we want something sturdy and high-end but expensive?
- Do we want something basic and all-purpose?
- Do we need a stroller that can carry more than one child?
Choosing a stroller actually depends on the needs of your baby, your family, and the budget.
Even though there are various kinds of strollers, there are two (2) basic strollers that most parents choose, one is the basic umbrella stroller, and the other one is the lightweight stroller.
For comparison, the basic umbrella type is a dense stroller used for travel. It is small, easy, and compact when folded. Convenient to transport either by automobiles or even when commuting. The basic umbrella stroller does not have any special features. However, their primary feature is comfort and a sunshade. Which makes it easy to use and transport anywhere.
However, there is also the light-weight stroller which is the other type that is chosen by most parents. The Lightweight designed strollers are smaller than the traditional one but bigger than the umbrella stroller. The light-weight stroller usually weighs around 20lbs (pounds) or less.
The light-weight stroller has several features that may fit your needs. Similar to the umbrella stroller, the light-weight stroller also offers convenience and comfort.
It includes under-seat storage with larger canopies, reclining seat, or back pads. The Light-weight stroller models also have adjustable leg rests and cup holders, sunshade, and sometimes it also has auto-locking features.
Some light-weight strollers offer detachable seats that can become a car seat. However, not most light-weight models have adaptive and not that flexible in changing the different positions of the seat.
Nevertheless, the lightweight stroller models also offer other features such as seatbelts, brakes, handle height and washable fabric, and storage and auto-lock features that will prevent the stroller from disintegrating or collapsing.
Thus before buying lightweight strollers or any kind of strollers you need to check and test the following features such as seatbelts so that your child won’t fall. Test the brakes and maneuverability. Check whether the handle height can be adjusted or not, usually, the handle height is around the pusher’s waist. It would be convenient if the handles are adjustable because it would depend on the height and the pusher’s waist. If the seats are adjustable and recline because most babies need to lay down flat until they can hold their head. As well as check if the canopy and the fabric are washable and the storage bin. The most important thing to check when buying a stroller is to check if it is within your budget.
With the lightweight stroller, it can provide you with both worlds simple minimal and standard or traditional product.
